We are simply ignoring the fact that it is grey and pouring it down outside. And to show how serious we are about this, we’re stoked to be sharing our new, fresh-off-the-press tropical hibiscus tea towels with you.
The California sunset-inspired hibiscus tea towel features line drawn flowers in an array of oranges – from sunshine glow, through to peach and coral, with pops of pink in between, offset by mellow khaki green leaves. Set against the soft blue background, the palette reminds me of Cape sunsets and retro surf films, where everything is bathed in that magical warm early evening glow.
Below features details of some of the flowers featured – they are big and bold and bold and not for the faint of heart.
My work starts as line drawings, which are then scanned, set up as a design, and coloured up in graphics software.
My designs are all rearranged to fit the final product, so lampshades would have a different design to a cushion cover, for example, and also be different to the tea towel layout. This means each product is able to display the full glory of the drawings rather than having to compromise with layouts that don’t quite fit.
So even though we can’t do much about the weather, we can add some warmth into our homes, with little bits of detail like these. Or, if you have a friend that needs cheering up and just isn’t ready for the end of summer – this makes a cute little present.
Sustainability and ethical production is very important to me, which is why my cotton tea towels are made and printed in England with eco-friendly water based inks. This means way less air miles than if produced abroad, and by using local manufacturers, we support our our local economy. On the practical side, tea towels are made with strong, 100% cotton half panama, have a hanging loop, and can be washed on a 40°C warm wash.
