The bird of paradise flower, also known as Strelitzia, is native to South Africa and since I was a little girl I was fascinated by these. No doubt the ‘bird of paradise’ name – given due to its flowers’ resemblance to birds of paradise – contributed to the little girl awe. This design is my ode to Strelitzias, which still cheer me up whenever I spot them.
